The KCET 2026 syllabus is based on the Karnataka 2nd PUC curriculum as well as Karnataka 1st PUC curriculum and serves as the foundation for all four subjects tested in the exam. This hub brings the complete syllabus together in one place, with each subject on a dedicated page for easier navigation. You can also check the KCET 2026 exam dates and registration to align your preparation timeline.
KCET tests four subjects. Select your subject below to explore the complete chapter-wise topic list.
| Subject | Core Topics | Marks | Exam Focus (high-weightage chapters) | KCET / NEET Overlap | High-Priority Areas / Notes |
| Physics |
Motion (kinematics & dynamics), Work–Energy, Gravitation, Properties of Matter, Thermodynamics, Oscillations & Waves 1st PUC: 15 chapters | 2nd PUC: 14 chapters |
60 MCQ 60 marks No negative marking |
• Current Electricity — 7–8% • Electrostatics — 6–7% • Ray & Wave Optics — 6–7% • Laws of Motion — 5–6% • Thermodynamics — 5% • Oscillations & Waves — 5% |
~40% direct overlap |
• Electrostatics + Current Electricity + Optics dominate 2nd PUC. • Mechanics, Thermodynamics & Oscillations (1st PUC) are consistent contributors — cannot be skipped. • Concept-based MCQs; accuracy matters more than risk-taking. |
| Chemistry |
Mole concept, Atomic structure, Periodic trends, Chemical bonding, Thermodynamics, Organic basics 1st PUC: 14 chapters | 2nd PUC: 16 chapters |
60 MCQ 60 marks No negative marking |
• Organic Chemistry (all) — 10–12% • Chemical Bonding — 6–7% • p & d Block Elements — 6–8% • Electrochemistry — 5% • Coordination Compounds — 5% • Equilibrium — 4–5% |
~30% foundation |
• Organic Chemistry alone can yield 12+ marks — highest single-topic priority. • Daily numericals for Physical Chemistry (Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Kinetics). • Regular revision of inorganic tables (p, d block, coordination compounds). |
| Mathematics |
Trigonometry, Algebra (P&C, Binomial), Coordinate geometry, Limits & Derivatives 1st PUC: 15 chapters | 2nd PUC: 12 chapters |
60 MCQ 60 marks No negative marking |
• Integrals + Application of Integrals — 9–10% • Continuity & Differentiability — 7–8% • Matrices & Determinants — 7–8% • Probability — 6–7% • Vectors & 3D Geometry — 6–7% • Application of Derivatives — 6–7% |
~35% direct overlap |
• Calculus (Continuity → Application of Integrals) contributes ~22–25 marks. • Matrices, Determinants & Vectors are predictable formula-based chapters — high return on investment. • Daily practice essential; speed and accuracy are the key differentiators. |
| Biology |
Diversity of living organisms, Cell biology, Plant & Human physiology 1st PUC: 22 chapters | 2nd PUC: 13 chapters |
60 MCQ 60 marks No negative marking |
• Principles of Inheritance — 12–13% • Molecular Basis of Inheritance — 12–13% • Sexual Repro. in Flowering Plants — 10–11% • Human Health & Disease — 10–11% • Human Reproduction — 9–10% • Evolution — 6–7% |
~35% KCET / NEET base |
• Genetics (Principles + Molecular Basis) = highest single-topic weight (~26 marks). • Required only for Agriculture, Pharmacy, Veterinary & Allied Health (not Engineering). • Strong NEET overlap — NCERT-focused preparation works for both exams. • Cell Biology & Physiology (1st PUC) build the foundation — do not skip. |
KCET is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), and the syllabus is aligned with the Karnataka 1st PUC curriculum and Karnataka 2nd PUC curriculum. Each subject includes 60 questions for 60 marks with no negative marking. This allows students to prepare for both board exams and KCET together with the same concepts and syllabus.
Preparing for KCET is not just about covering the syllabus, it's about knowing what to focus on and how to approach each subject strategically.
At Giraffe Learning, students are guided with structured study plans, subject-wise preparation, and regular testing aligned with the KCET pattern. The focus is on helping students stay consistent and improve performance across Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.
If you want guided support, you can join Giraffe Learning's KCET coaching in Bangalore and build a clear preparation strategy.
